Description
Join us for a comprehensive ProStart Bootcamp, designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of culinary students, management students, and ProStart educators.
This intensive workshop will feature separate, targeted sessions tailored to each group, ensuring a deep dive into their specific areas of expertise.
- Culinary Students will engage in hands-on training, focusing on fundamental techniques, advanced culinary skills, and menu development. Under the guidance of experienced chefs, students will refine their abilities and prepare for success in the ProStart competition and beyond.
- Management Students will focus on key topics in restaurant operations, including financial planning, customer service, and leadership. Through interactive activities, case studies, and real-world scenarios, students will sharpen their management skills and gain practical insights for excelling in the hospitality industry.
- ProStart Teachers will attend specialized sessions that explore effective teaching strategies, competition preparation, and classroom management. These workshops will also provide valuable resources and networking opportunities to help educators guide their students toward success in ProStart and their future careers.
This bootcamp is the perfect opportunity for students and teachers alike to enhance their skills, build confidence, and collaborate with peers across the state.

10:00 AM - Arrival & Welcome (Wales Conference Center)
10:30 AM – Tour of Sweet Briar Agriculture & Sustainability Program
• Greenhouses: Explore our year-round produce and hydroponics.
• Apiary: Learn the importance of bees in sustainable agriculture.
• Vineyards: Walk through our working vineyard and learn about grape cultivation and harvest.
12:00 PM – Farm-to-Table Culinary Experience (Sweet Briar Culinary Kitchen)
• Hands-on workshop with Sweet Briar’s Executive Chef
• Learn techniques using Sweet Briar-grown ingredients
• Focus on sustainable cooking, local sourcing, and flavor pairing
• Prepare and plate your own dish alongside our culinary team
1:00 PM – Lunch & Tasting in Prothro Dining Hall
• Enjoy the meal you’ve helped create
• Discuss the farm-to-table process and culinary career pathways
2:00 PM – Q&A and Wrap-Up
• Chat with faculty and students about programs in sustainability and entrepreneurship
• Take-home packets with information on Sweet Briar academic programs and scholarships
